Habitat For Humanity - Raritan Valley

Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity’s (RVHFH) mission is to provide affordable housing in Somerset and Hunterdon Counties. RVHFH is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, the largest non-profit homebuilder in the world.

The most important partners in the Habitat program are the low-income families who earn 30 to 50% of median income. Families are selected for the home based on their need for housing, willingness to contribute their own sweat equity and ability to repay the no-interest mortgage provided by Habitat. The construction of the home is done primarily with volunteer labor working in partnership with the families who will become the new owners.

Individuals interested in RVHFH should contact the office at 908-704-0016. There are many opportunities to serve beyond just the construction of homes.

Habitat for Humanity works to provide housing for underprivileged individuals and families by rehabilitating worn out properties and by building low-cost new homes. This work is done primarily with volunteer labor working in partnership with the families who will become the new owners. Homes are sold at no profit for a low down payment and with a no-interest mortgage.

Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church members and friends have helped build 6 homes since 2000. Currently we are working on 2 single‑family attached houses in Manville and Somerset. We work through our local affiliate, Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity.  In 2003, 9 LCPC folks participated in the "Jimmy Carter Build" in Alabama.

Children in the Liberty Corner Sunday school applied their offerings in 2003-2004 to purchase "Habitat Helper" kits for new homeowners of Habitat homes in Raritan Valley.

More information about Raritan Valley Habitat is available at the Raritan Valley Habitat website and at the Habitat for Humanity International website.

BUILDING ON FAITH - LCPC, along with 11 other churches, has joined the Building on Faith in Franklin Township church partnership, with Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity. The partnership will support the building of four homes in Franklin Township, over the coming year. As of this month (Nov. 2007), the building permits have been approved, the land has been cleared, and foundations are now being put in place. LCPC will schedule work days, so we may work side-by-side with the partner families.

Recently (2007), LCPC was one of the primary sponsors of the construction of homes for four families in Bernardsville.  Members of LCPC worked on all phases of the construction on two duplex homes.  Immediately below are photos of the dedication of one of the homes and partial completion of the duplexes.

Below is a sampling of other homes that Liberty Corner helped finance and construct.
