"Hearts For Honduras has changed my life in extraordinary ways. Before I was just Tania without any dreams, without any vision about the future. The truth is that I never thought I would reach the place where I am today. At this point in my life, I have visions of continuing to progress and to escape the poverty in which I live. I don't expect to be a millionaire, just to have what I need.

My life has changed so much more than I, Tania Lopez, could have hoped for. I am very grateful to the members of Liberty Corner Church, to the Director of our school PatyVillanueva, to my teachers, but above all, to God."

When Tania Lopez enrolled at the Hearts For Honduras School in 2001, she was just like the other students who attend classes there. Tania had no opportunity to go to public school as her family could not afford the uniforms, books and enrollment fees required to attend.

Her family of 9 lives in a makeshift home and her mother struggles to provide the basic necessities for the family. Despite the impoverished conditions in which Tania lives, she knew that the Hearts For Honduras School was an opportunity to have her life transformed. She began to dream about a better life for her and her family.

Tania worked hard on her studies and soon excelled in her classes. Last November, Tania graduated with the 6th grade class and was named class valedictorian. She addressed her classmates and teachers at the commencement ceremony (see lower right) and was awarded one of two scholarships to attend a prestigious private school for her continuing education. Her new teachers report that Tania is once again at the top of her class.

Tania is very grateful to the Hearts For Honduras School for providing her with the building blocks to a brighter future. She now spends several afternoons each week working at Hearts For Honduras as a teachers’ assistant in the first grade to show her appreciation for all that God has given her through the school.
